“Don’t Tax My Credit Union” advocacy must continue
As tax reform discussions continue in Congress, credit unions must remain diligent in their “Don’t Tax My Credit Union!” advocacy.  Maintaining a strong and consistent message to Congress shows this is important to Wisconsin constituents and that protecting the current credit union tax status should be a priority. The League has additional postcards and other resources available if you would like assistance in your continued efforts. Contact Sarah Wainscott for materials or assistance.

Promote and protect your members and credit union Feb. 12
Join credit union leaders from across Wisconsin for the State Government Affairs Conference, Feb. 12 in Madison. With multiple registration discounts available, this one-day conference is a convenient and crucial way to strengthen Wisconsin’s credit union movement. Attendees will hear from CUNA’s SVP of Legislative Affairs Ryan Donovan, George Hofheimer of the Filene Research Institute, and participate in one of two panel discussions to further develop your unique advocacy skills. Nominations for League Board positions are due Feb. 15
The League Board is accepting nominations through Feb. 15 to fill terms representing credit unions in Region 1, Region 3 and Region 5. To be eligible, the person must be a Director, President, Senior Vice President or Executive Vice President of a League member credit union within the Region that person is to represent. Mark your calendars now! The peer networking, combined with the chance to ask questions and trade ideas on practical aspects of your workload, make League roundtables some of our most popular events! Attend free demo Jan. 22 of retirement fair program
You’re invited to a free, hands-on showcase of the "Route Your Retirement Fair" program from 1-4 p.m.,Jan. 22, at Credit Union House in Madison that will teach you about this new resource that can help your credit union host an interactive retirement education event. Mark Lynch, Field Coach with the National Credit Union Foundation, will showcase the turnkey materials that will be made available starting in 2014 to Wisconsin credit unions through the Wisconsin Credit Union League. Developed by the National Credit Union Foundation's (NCUF’s) REAL Solutions Program in conjunction with CUNA Mutual Group, the “Route Your Retirement” program engages workers in making lifestyle choices for their retirement years while assessing the cost of supporting those choices. Apply by Feb. 28 for a DE Scholarship from the Foundation
The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation is accepting applications through Feb. 28 for a scholarship to the April, 2014 Development Education training, held in Madison. DE training offers "CU philosophy immersion"—an in-depth look at CUs' history, global reach, and challenges. Attendees who become Development Educators (CUDEs) learn to apply CU philosophy to solve pressing local problems. DE training may help young staff commit to a CU career. Remember someone special on Valentine's Day with a tribute/memorial
With Valentine’s Day approaching, donate to the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation in memory of or as a tribute to someone special. The recipient or their family will receive a special card of honor with your name as the benefactor, and will be recognized along with other donors. Memorial or tribute gifts totaling $500 or more are recognized at Convention. Give a memorial or tribute gift today.

Invite lawmakers to your youth-run branch during Youth Week, April 20-26
Begin planning your events for the 2014 Youth Week and Saving Challenge. CUNA has ideas for activities and success stories and The League offers all the sample materials you need to invite lawmakers to tour your youth-run branch. This advocacy is critical in showing lawmakers that credit unions do what is right without being compelled to do so and helps ensure their support for our issues.

Let The League file your 990
Let us save you from the headache of completing what has been called the most complex form in IRS history – the Form 990. Sign up by January 31. The Form 990 is a public document so it is recommended that a copy be given to your Board of Directors for review.  Submit your information to The League by Feb. 28 so that a draft can be prepared in time for your April Board Meeting. YPs receive free advocacy training ahead of state GAC

Included in young professionals' $99 registration fee for the state Government Affairs Conference in Madison Feb. 12 is a pre-conference advocacy workshop that will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The workshop will feature an advocacy training, best practices in credit union messaging and group discussion featuring young legislators and seasoned credit union Activists. Save the date for YP Boot Camp in Eau Claire March 27
Young Professionals age 35 and younger will gather at Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire to network with peers, learn more about the credit union system and gain best practices to benefit their credit union. The topic will be “service excellence.” Register now.
