Stay on top of regulatory changes with The League's Keys to Compliance webinar series

Compliance remains the hot topic of 2010. Make sure you're up-to-date on important compliance issues with The League's Keys to Compliance 2010 Webinar Series. This year's webinar topics include the Wisconsin Consumer Act and the Wisconsin Marital Property Act, organization accounts, trusts, POAs and other special accounts, checking accounts, Fair Credit Reporting Act and more! And again this year, The League is offering small credit unions two complimentary sessions. Larger credit unions can also get a deal on pricing by registering for six or more sessions.
It is a great time to take advantage of these fantastic offers! And these webinars are especially convenient because there's no need to leave the office to receive this valuable training. Also, each session is archived for up to 90 days after the session's date, meaning that you can share it with staff or review it again at a later date! For more information or to register, contact Judy Phillips at (800) 242-0833, Ext. 6020.

Get the HR answers important to you at The League's HR Roundtable Feb. 17
Learn the "Best Practices in HR for 2010" from Jo Whiting, The League's Executive Vice President/Chief Advocacy Officer and Human Resources expert, while also networking with your peers during The League's HR Roundtable on Feb. 17. Roundtables are different from regular educational seminars because in addition to an informational session on a specific topic, they also include an opportunity for attendees to discuss questions and issues that relate specifically to their position or credit union. Roundtables are not just about the rule, law or regulation, it's peers sharing how they can put those rules, laws and regulations into practice and that's why it's so beneficial, Whiting said. For more information or to register, contact Judy Phillips at (800) 242-0833, Ext. 6020.

Avoid the headache – Let The League Services Corp. file your Form 990
Let The League Services Corp. make it easy for you to file what is being said to be the most complex form in IRS history, the Form 990. Through its Form 990 service, The League Services Corp. will prepare and electronically file your credit union’s Tax Form 990 information return for you. And the service is priced affordably according to credit union asset size making it accessible for everyone!
As for the Form 990-T, the Services Corp. cannot complete the form for credit unions, but will review your completed form for free. Also, if your credit union merged with another credit union in 2009, make sure the merging credit union completed its final Form 990 within five and a half months after the completion of the merger.  Form 990 is required for ALL state-chartered credit unions. If you have any questions regarding the Form 990 or Form 990-T, please feel free to contact Cari Thompson, The League’s Director of Finance, at (800) 242-0833, Ext. 6023.

Tell your members how to get a fast and free tax refund via direct deposit

Help youth "get in the savings game" - Plan early for 2010 Youth Week
Now is the perfect time to start planning for the 2010 National Credit Union Youth Week, April 18-24. The 2010 theme will be "Get in the Savings Game at a Credit Union." Also, don’t forget to include the National Credit Union Savings Challenge, which runs throughout April, in your credit union's plans. Last year, more than 6,500 youth deposited $383,503 in credit union accounts as part of the challenge. That's close to $60 saved per participant! Participating Wisconsin credit unions also opened more than 430 new youth accounts during the Challenge.

Sponsor a local teacher for the 2010 National Institute of Financial and Economic Literacy!
Plan early to sponsor a teacher for the 2010 National Institute of Financial and Economic Literacy – week-long workshops that instruct educators how to teach young people the basics of personal finance. These popular workshops, which take place on the Edgewood College campus in Madison, are your chance to help young people build a financially solvent future. Teacher sponsorship for each full week costs $225 – a bargain! – and includes lodging, meals and the teacher's registration.
Wisconsin credit unions have sponsored teachers each year, while The League has provided financial support for the sessions since their inception in 2001.
