CU members' videos support biz lending bill

Shoreline Credit Union is tapping the help of several member business borrowers like this one, an industrial cutter and fabricator, to share stories that can help pass S. 2231, the Credit Union Small Business Jobs Bill (see top story).

Credit unions keep the pressure on to pass business lending bill
Credit unions have done an outstanding job using a variety of methods to share stories with Wisconsin's U.S. Senators Herb Kohl and Ron Johnson about the need for small business access to credit. The goal is to pass the federal Credit Union Small Business Jobs Bill, which would increase the arbitrary cap on credit unions' member business lending. The measure would extend $453 million of new credit to Wisconsin businesses and 4,920 new jobs in the first year alone at no cost to taxpayers. FULL STORY

Improve member service: get discounted financial counseling training
Based on the interest garnered from credit unions, The League has agreed to partner with the National Credit Union Foundation to offer an enhanced version of the Credit Union Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) this fall, which teaches and certifies CU employees of all levels on how to approach and counsel members who are faced with financial difficulties.

Discover a new culture: host a CU intern from the Dominican Republic
The World Council of Credit Unions is working with the Wisconsin Credit Union League for the implementation of the third phase of its International Credit Union Leadership Program. In September of 2011, the World Council was awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of Citizen Exchanges to carry out four cultural exchange programs focused on young entrepreneurs in the credit union industry. Young Professionals Network seeking Advisory Board nominations
The League is looking for five young professionals to serve on the newly formed YP Network Advisory Board. Nomination and application details can be found on the YP Network's newly-developed website and are due by Friday, July 20. The Advisory Board is replacing the YP Council as the leadership body for the YP Network and will help to guide the future growth of The League's YP development efforts.

Madison area credit unions collaborate to advertise the CU Difference
Madison area credit unions have collaborated to place banner ads touting the "Credit Union Difference" on www.madison.com, the website for the Wisconsin State Journal, Capital Times and other local publications. The ads will be in rotation on the homepage for the next two months. Credit unions in other areas of the state are exploring options to use the free materials locally. Learn more about the materials for possible use in your area.

Share your input in The League's annual Salary Survey
By July 20, credit unions are being asked to complete The League's Annual Salary & Compensation Survey. The survey was mailed to presidents and human resource contacts for Wisconsin credit unions over $1 million in assets. The data you provide will help us to compile important information about the going rate of pay and type of benefits offered to staff at all levels of credit union operation. Credit unions that fill out and return a survey receive, at no cost, a copy of the final report—a valuable tool when evaluating or structuring an employee compensation or benefits package. Those who do not participate can purchase the final report for $100. The final report will be mailed to participating credit unions in mid-September.
