Advocate for your members' best interests at the state GAC!
The League's State Government Affairs Conference (GAC), set for Feb. 12 in Madison, is your prime opportunity to advocate for your members' best interests! Consumer study reveals strong preference for credit unions
When asked which financial institution would fulfill expectations of favorable rates, affordable fees, ethical business standards and customer service, 76% of respondents in a recent survey elected financial cooperatives—a credit union (66%) or farm credit cooperative (10%)—over commercial banks (13%). And 77% of respondents also chose a cooperative financial institution over banks when it comes to trust. FULL STORY

Wisconsin YP Scholarship available to "Crash" the CUNA GAC
CUNA and the Cooperative Trust are teaming up with state leagues to send up to 51 young professionals (one from each state and D.C.) to "Crash" the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., Feb. 23-27. The YP from Wisconsin selected to crash the event will get a free conference registration (sponsored by CUNA), funds for airfare and hotel (sponsored by The League) and a chance to attend one of the industry's biggest events featuring exclusive breakout sessions for YPs. Nominate your credit union for a Governor's Financial Literacy Award
Apply now through January 10 for the 2013 Governor's Financial Literacy Award, which honors individuals and organizations for financial education efforts. Past winners have included Brokaw, Educators, STAR, Summit, Superior Choice and UW credit unions, while Wisconsin credit unions have won collectively for their REAL Solutions® initiative, the brass|STUDENT program, their youth-run branches, the Money Mission® life simulation for teens, and their Investor Education in Your Workplace® program.

Watch for a mailing regarding League Board nominations
The League Board is accepting nominations through Feb. 15 to fill terms representing credit unions in Region 1, Region 3 and Region 5. To be eligible, the person must be a Director, President, Senior Vice President or Executive Vice President of a League member credit union within the Region that person is to represent. Obtain nomination forms by contacting Karen Raether at (262) 408-6021. All candidates must be nominated by the president or chair of their credit union and obtain seconding signatures by two other credit unions within the Region. Watch for a December mailing with all the details.

Let The League file your 990
Let us save you from the headache of completing what has been called the most complex form in IRS history—the Form 990. Sign up by January 31. The Form 990 is a public document so it is recommended that a copy be given to your Board of Directors for review. Links kits for the February Chain of Hearts fundraiser supporting Children's Miracle Network Hospitals are being shipped in December to credit unions that donated to the charity this year while other credit unions will receive an invitation to participate and an order form for supplies. FULL STORY
