Webinar: Interagency Guidance
for Reporting Elder Financial Exploitation (Archive Only)
Friday, March 14, 2014
2:00 - 3:30 pm CST
Speaker: Luann S. Kohlmann, AAP, NCP, WACHA
Recently-issued guidance by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
(CFPB) clarifies that reporting suspected financial abuse of older
adults to appropriate local, state, or federal agencies does not violate
the privacy provisions of the Graham-Leach- Bliley Act. In addition,
some states require financial institutions to have education pertaining
to elder exploitation (which this session may satisfy).
Your financial institution is in the best position to stop the
identity theft and financial exploitation of your senior accountholders.
Any senior, regardless of economic status, gender, race, age, or
educational background can be the target of financial abuse, so you must
know the red flags. Do you have a plan in place to react effectively if
this occurs? This session will provide scenarios and resources to use as
these situations arise.
