The League’s 2008 Year in Review: Part 1 of 3

Throughout 2008 The League and Wisconsin credit unions have worked together to advance the credit union movement. By taking advantage of The League’s resources, credit unions gained:

Important educational opportunities. More than 2,000 participants took advantage of The League’s more than 90 seminars held throughout 2008. Credit unions also had a chance to learn more about a new requirement, Form 990, through several free workshops held by The League. The League also organized roundtable discussions to help credit unions network and share ideas. More than 1,100 attended educational sessions on a wide range of topics as part of The League’s annual convention.

A new vehicle to support the movement. The League established The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation, which will fund scholarships, credit union development and efforts helping credit unions, their members and communities.

Consulting services. The League offered analysis and action steps to spur credit union growth as part of our Small Credit Union Initiative, while The League’s consultants facilitated board plannings and answered thousands of calls on strategic and operational issues. The League also provided individually tailored HR consulting and training.

National Presence. The League stayed active within the national credit union movement by speaking at national credit union conferences to share best practices regarding the REAL Solutions program and our 1 with The League initiative. The League also partnered with the Filene Research Institute to pilot the CU Tomorrow program in Wisconsin, which provides credit unions with business plans that aim to help attract younger members, young professionals and younger volunteers. League staff also served on the board of directors for nationwide associations, including the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL).
