FMLA Workshop unravels one of the most complex employment laws


The Family & Medical Leave Act is one of the toughest employment laws to implement. But if your credit union has at least 50 employees, or is about to cross that threshold, you need a policy in place that meet its requirements. The League's FMLA workshop Dec. 4 in Stevens Point will address some of the most challenging issues to implement on a practical basis.

 

For example, you'll learn:

  • How much leave does an employee get;

  • What can we tell others about an employee's extended absence;

  • What can we do about someone we think is abusing a leave; and

  • What if the person on leave still can't come back to work.

 

Presenter Joanne Whiting is Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer of The Wisconsin Credit Union League and human resources consultant to credit unions. Jo’s work includes over-seeing the advocacy, communications, and legal/technical departments of The League, acting as counsel to The League and its Services Corp., developing strategic initiatives, and assisting credit unions with legal and compliance issues.

 

She'll help participants work through a model FMLA policy, review recent rulings and guidance from state and federal agencies and courts, and more.
