Representatives being sought for League Councils, Committee
Representatives from credit unions are being sought to serve on League advisory groups that provide ongoing feedback on what credit unions and their 2.2 million members need. The groups seeking representatives for the coming year include:
Current members will serve until new members are named July 1. Those already serving must contact Karen Raether to express interest in continuing.
The League’s Young Professionals Council is being eliminated in favor of a new leadership structure that will be part of The Network, the League’s professional development group for credit union leaders ages 35 and younger. More information on this change will be communicated in the following weeks.
Feedback from credit unions on these groups
helps The League advocate for improvements in credit unions’
regulatory environment, gives credit unions a voice in Madison and
Washington, D.C., enhances services, creates training opportunities and
increases credit unions’ visibility among members and the
public. "Our committees ensure that The League is helping credit unions achieve cost-savings as well as improve efficiencies, expand, grow and ensure engaged leadership for the credit union movement of tomorrow," explains League president & CEO Brett Thompson.
Committee members usually wish to serve because they feel they can offer expertise in a particular area. Nominations are confirmed by the League board chairman. Committee members generally meet two to three times a year at the league or via conference call. They are reimbursed for certain costs associated with their participation.
Committee members—as well as League Directors who receive copies of committee meeting minutes—serve as conduits for credit union staff to direct feedback and questions back to committees.
"Committees work best when credit union
employees offer them input," says Thompson. Feedback could be as simple
as letting a committee liaison or League Director know how the free advertising materials for our CU
awareness campaign have been useful,
telling us how well a particular product or service is meeting member needs or communicating concerns or questions
about state or federal laws or regulations," he said. "Credit unions leverage their collective strength through The League. Committees help serve as a voice for credit unions to communicate their wants and needs so that, as a united League, we can improve service for credit unions’ member-owners in Wisconsin," Thompson concluded.
