Uncommitted Wisconsin Senators are key to
passing the Credit Union Small Business Jobs Act (S. 2231)
A vote on our Credit Union Small Business Jobs
Act could come at any time after the Congressional recess ends on April
16. That means we must act now to ensure that Wisconsin's two U.S.
Senators—who are currently uncommited to voting for the
bill—do so. Even if you've contacted them previously, take a
moment to do so again now.
Your action is critical in overcoming opposition by the banking industry, which has turned
out in force to derail the legislation.
"This is not about banks versus credit
unions, it is about main street busiensses and job creation," said VP of Government Affairs Tom Liebe. "Our message to
the Senators is clear - voting for S. 2231 will help small businesses
get the credit they need today at no cost to taxpayers."
A radio ad urging consumers to contact the Senators is airing across
Wisconsin and features a small business owner who was denied by a bank
and received a loan from a credit union.
In order to be successful, credit union
employees, directors and members are asked to:
- Quickly send a pre-written email to Senator Kohl
and Senator Johnson through our Grassroots Action
Center. Your single email will be sent to both Senators.
You may even customize the message with your own
small business or credit union story.
- Share the link to the Grassroots Action
Center with other staff, board, members and small business
associates on email, Facebook and Twitter.
- Call the toll-free number
1-877-642-4223. Once you provide your zip code, you will be directed to
the office of one of Wisconsin’s Senators. Talking points will be
provided upon calling.
- Call again to reach the other
Senator.
- Tweet your support
for S.2231 (#raisemblcap).
The League has resources to aid your response, including:
-
- Customizable materials, including sample text to publish
in your member newsletter or online to educate
members and allow them to participate in this advocacy,
brochures, web banners and graphics, QR codes, email text and more
- The link to the Action Alert email message
- The toll-free phone number
- Contact information for both Wisconsin
Senators
- Grassroots goals for Wisconsin’s credit
unions
- The video by Bill Cheney (seen on this
newsletter's front page) urging immediate action
- CUNA Resources (includes additional talking points
and statistics)
