Harness your members' support for business
lending bill
Credit union's members can be the difference
in the grassroots effort to gain support from Wisconsin’s U.S.
Senators Herb Kohl and Ron Johnson for federal legislation, S.
2231, that will help small businesses and create jobs.
Credit unions are encouraged to get 100%
participation from their employees and directors in making contacts to
both Senators via email, letter, telephone and in person. But the
magnitude of our grassroots impact will increase exponentially if credit
union members statewide also participate.
The League has provided a sample article for all credit unions to share via their member websites,
statements or newsletters to engage credit union members. Other tools provided by The
League can be used to involve members
in person as part of letter-signings, automated email campaigns in CU
lobbies, or through social media like Facebook or Twitter.
"If just a small fraction of the state's 2.2
million members participated we'd deluge our Senators with constituent
support," said VP of Government Affairs Tom Liebe. "We have the people
power to prove this is an important issue to Wisconsin's consumers. If
credit unions give members the opportunity to learn about the benefits
of S. 2231, their support – which can be as easy as signing a
letter – can enhance our grassroots efforts."
Those who have made prior contacts are being
encouraged to do so again using a variety of alternate means. All credit
union employees, directors and members should:
-
- If you’ve sent a pre-written email, send a personal email or
letter to each Senator.
- If you’ve sent a pre-written email and personal message, call
each office using the toll-free number 1-877-642-4223 to tell each
Senator’s staff it's important to support S. 2231.
