Encourage students to participate in #brassmoneymonth contest in April


The brass|STUDENT PROGRAM has unveiled its new 2014 Financial Literacy Month contest: #brassmoneymonth! For the entire month of April, brass will be asking students and teachers to snap creative photos demonstrating ways to save, make a budget, use credit responsibly and give back to their school or community. Credit unions are encouraged to get in the game too.

To participate, students and teachers must follow the contest rules:

  1. Follow @brassgram on Instagram.

  2. Post a new photo that represents that week’s theme. Add the correct hashtags: #brassmoneymonth + weekly theme hashtag.

  3. Urge people to "like" your photos in the gallery.


Brass will choose a winner each week based on the number of "likes" on the photos, and ultimately choose a grand prize winner at the end of April.


How credit unions can get involved


Wisconsin credit unions are encouraged to help make this contest a success by getting the word out to teachers and students. Here are some ways to help promote the contest in your area during the month of March:


  1. Contact teachers you have relationships with and share the contest details.

  2. Make an appointment for a class visit to present on one of the contest topics: budgeting, savings or credit. If you need a ready-made presentation, please visit the Student Program Admin site (email Chad Helminak for access).

  3. During your school visit, hand out contest bookmarks and flyers and be sure to show students the contest video trailer. Please be sure to remind students not to use inappropriate photos or any photos that contain their personal information or anyone else’s.


Promotion materials have been mailed out to schools and CU contacts and include a DVD with contest trailer, flyers, bookmarks and a brass t-shirt to wear to school presentations. Some of these materials will also be available on the Student Program Admin site.
