Activists: continue contacts and prepare for
lame duck
Credit union Activists can remain active in
their push for the Credit Union Small Business Jobs
Bill, S. 2231/H.R. 1418, which would increase
CUs’ business lending cap from 12.25% to 27.5% of total
assets.
A vote in the U.S. Senate is
expected to occur in the lame duck session, after the November elections
and before Christmas. Grassroots efforts have mainly focused on the
Senate, where the bill will be considered first. If it passes in the
Senate, immediate action will be sought in the House. Activists should
take this time to prepare our House members for a vote.
"Many believe that the upcoming lame duck
session will provide a meaningful opportunity to pass member business
lending legislation in some fashion," said VP of Government Affairs Tom
Liebe. "To position ourselves for success, Activists should prepare to
re-engage in heavy grassroots activity during the lame duck session. A
win on this bill could also improve our legislative position on many
issues including forms of regulatory relief."
Over the Congressional recess and in
anticipation of a vote during the lame duck session, please
consider:
-
- Sending another email Action Alert. Our Grassroots
Action Center has revised messages prepared for both of
Wisconsin's U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative.
- Identifying small business members
who are willing to share stories about the difficulty they have had in
securing capital or the value of additional access to credit from credit
unions.
- Attending Town Hall meetings and
campaign events.
The League has additional resources to aid your advocacy
efforts.
