IRA Essentials & Advanced Workshops set for Feb. 18 &
Are you prepared to handle your members' IRA transactions and answer
their questions? Whether you need the basics or something more advanced,
join us in Wisconsin Dells to gain practical knowledge and
skills. The League's 2014 IRA training will provide:
Essentials, including IRA benefits,
traditional vs. Roth IRAs, types of beneficiaries, contribution limits,
taxes on distributions, withholding requirements, penalties &
exceptions, rollovers vs. transfers and reporting requirements.
Advanced concepts, including amendment
requirements & procedures, true excess vs. deemed excess, correcting
excess contributions, calculating net income attributable, portability
restrictions, conversions/reconversions, required minimum distribution
(RMD) rules and reporting, beneficiary distribution options &
deadlines, and withholding notice/election requirements/penalties.
Both sessions will involve participants in real-world exercises that
apply IRA concepts to job-related situations.
Trainer Debbie Shipman, Senior Training Consultant with Ascensus,
Inc., trains credit unions nationwide on IRA issues. She has close
to 20 years of experience working as an IRA training consultant
for CUNA Mutual Group and as a financial services
representative with both banks and credit unions.
Her responsibilities included internal training, new accounts, IRAs,
personal lending, and managing a sales team. She is a Certified IRA
Specialist (CIS) through Ascensus, Certified IRA Professional (CIP)
through Ascensus and the National Association of Federal Credit Unions
(NAFCU) as well as a Certified IRA Services Professional (CISP) through
the American Bankers Association (ABA).
