League Services

The Wisconsin Credit Union League is the trade association for close to 180 member-owned credit unions in the state and promotes the health and well being of the credit union movement at the national, state and local level. The League provides services to its credit unions in the following areas:

  • Communications

The Communications Department works to raise consumer awareness about credit unions and build relationships with the media and the general public. The Communications Department also keeps credit unions informed of events within the credit union movement.

  • Compliance

The League is credit unions' main resource for questions regarding regulatory compliance. Answering thousands of calls from credit union staffers every year, The League's Legal Affairs team helps credit unions avoid compliance deficiencies that potentially expose them to risk. The League also clarifies compliance issues affecting credit unions' service to members.

  • Education and training

With more than 200 training programs provided to more than 2,600 participants each year, The League's Education Department is constantly exploring new methods to deliver convenient, cost-effective training to help credit union staff, directors and management fulfill their roles. In addition, the Education Department is expanding topics and teaching styles to offer credit unions new ways to improve daily operations and member service. Please browse the calendar of events for a complete course listing.

  • Government affairs

The Wisconsin Credit Union League represents the interests of Wisconsin credit unions before national and state legislative and regulatory bodies. During each legislative session, the Government Affairs Department follows current and proposed legislation dealing with issues that impact credit unions and their members. The Government Affairs Department at The League analyzes legislation and lobbies members of the appropriate governmental bodies on behalf of credit unions statewide.

  • Regulatory advocacy

The League monitors both state and federal rules and regulations from when they're first proposed through their implementation, using input from credit unions to shape the specific requirements credit unions must follow under the law. The League uses in put from an advisory group, its Regulatory Advocacy Council, to prepare the comment letters it files with regulatory agencies to share credit unions' perspective on the practical implementation of state or federal rules. The League also communicates regularly with regulators, examiners and partners like CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group to ensure a broad base of knowledge from which to affect the regulatory process. The aim is to preserve a regulatory environment that protects members without inhibiting credit unions' ability to deliver services and grow.
