Wisconsin Credit Union League
The Wisconsin Credit Union League is the dues-funded, trade association
for more than 255 of Wisconsin's not-for-profit, member-owned financial
institutions. Based on the credit union philosophy of "people helping
people", The Wisconsin Credit Union League feels it is important to give
back to the local community and educate consumers on pertinent
issues.
The Wisconsin Credit Union League supports:
REAL Solutions®
A statewide initiative pioneered by Wisconsin credit
unions to help build financially strong, self-supporting families and
communities. This is accomplished by offering innovative services and
programs that meet consumers' immediate needs for transaction services
while moving them through the steps of opening basic deposit accounts,
building creditworthiness with small loans, and "over time" building
wealth.
Free Tax Preparation Assistance
Program
Wisconsin credit unions are helping tax filers receive
their refunds free and fast by partnering with volunteer tax preparation
sites statewide.
Consumer Credit Counseling
Services
The League won the most prestigious national award
offered by the credit union movement, the Herb Wegner Award, for an
alliance in which credit unions refer financially troubled members to
credit counselors. Counselors work one-on-one with individuals to
develop a debt repayment plan, workable budget and prevent the
debt-to-bankruptcy cycle.
Wisconsin Credit Union
Foundation
Established in 2007, The Wisconsin Credit Union
Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to promote the growth
and health of credit unions and their communities.
National Credit Union
Foundation
The Foundation supports the
development of credit unions in parts of the world where there are no
financial services alternatives, bringing financial stability to places
like the Philippines and Afghanistan.
Financial Education
The League has won two national
awards within the credit union movement for our efforts to improve our
state's financial literacy. Our web site includes a page that helps
credit unions get involved in financial education efforts.
Filene Research Institute
The Institute produces research that
benefits members and consumers through innovative developments in credit
union services.
Children's Miracle Network
The League encourages the statewide
fundraising of credit unions raising more than a quarter million dollars
for this national charity. CMN helps 17 million children annually
receive medical care regardless of their families' ability to
pay.
United Way
The League raises close to $1,500
every year for the United Way through employee contributions, bake and
craft sales, mini-golf and other activities.
American Cancer Society
League employees buy Daffodils in the
spring as a sign of hope for cancer patients, thereby raising money for
the charity.
Food
Drives
The League coordinates a food drive
at our annual convention every year with donations going to the local
food pantry in the city where the convention is held. During the
holidays, we collect food and monetary donations from League staff for
food pantries in the Milwaukee area.
