Wisconsin Credit Union League
The Wisconsin Credit Union League is the dues-funded, trade association
for 199 of Wisconsin's not-for-profit, member-owned financial
institutions. Based on the credit union philosophy of "people helping
people," The Wisconsin Credit Union League feels it is important to give
back to the local community and educate consumers on pertinent
issues.
The Wisconsin Credit Union League supports:
REAL Solutions®
This is a statewide initiative pioneered by
Wisconsin credit unions to help build financially strong,
self-supporting families and communities. Credit unions share best
practices to help families of all incomes improve their creditworthiness
and build wealth. The effort is not defined by a particular program or
service, but rather a commitment to help members regardless of profit.
It's credit unions doing what's right simply because its the right thing
to do, without any costly state or federal
mandates. The REAL Solutions Scorecard, produced by The League
annually, explains how the effort returns more than $200
million a year to Wisconsin's 2.2 million credit union members.
Free Tax Preparation Assistance
Program
Wisconsin credit unions are helping tax filers receive
their refunds free and fast by partnering with volunteer tax preparation
sites statewide.
Consumer Credit Counseling
Services
Credit unions provide free financial counseling to help
members stay on a sound financial path. But credit unions may also
partner with CCCS to offer additional intensive counseling to help
financially troubled members with nowhere else to turn. The League won
the most prestigious national award offered by the credit union
movement, the Herb Wegner Award, for this effort which helps
members develop debt repayment plans, establish workable budgets
and prevent a debt-to-bankruptcy cycle.
Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation
Established in 2007, The Wisconsin Credit Union
Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to promote the growth
and health of credit unions and their communities.
National Credit Union
Foundation
The Foundation supports the
development of credit unions in parts of the world where there are no
financial services alternatives, bringing financial stability to places
like the Philippines and Afghanistan.
Financial Education
The League is dedicated to improving
our state's financial literacy through efforts with our affiliated
credit unions and additional partnerships. For example, credit unions'
statewide REAL Solutions effort has captured several Governor's Financial Literacy Awards for
efforts that focus on financial education.
Filene Research Institute
The Institute produces research that
benefits members and consumers through innovative developments in credit
union services.
Children's Miracle Network
Hospitals
The League encourages
fundraising by credit unions for this preferred charity,
which provides medical care for 17 million children annually
regardless of their families' ability to pay. Wisconsin credit unions
raise anywhere from a quarter million to a half million dollars annually
for the hospitals, and credit unions nationally - through the Credit
Unions for Kids program - are among the charity's top sponsors
nationwide.
United Way
The League involves its staff in
annual fundraising for the United Way through employee
contributions, bake and craft sales, mini-golf and other
activities.
American Cancer Society
League employees raise money for the
charity by buying Daffodils in the spring as a sign of hope for
cancer patients.
