At a time when young people are more
challenged than ever to get their start financially, let them know that
they can find a windfall of savings simply by using a credit union!
The savings they’d realize would be a great start toward paying for college, buying a first home, starting a family, or pursuing a passion, like starting a small business. Sharing the news with your young members, youth groups and local young adults offers you a chance to ask them what they’d do with their savings, and even share their comments on video!
Creating greater awareness of credit unions as a preferred choice of consumers is a key action area of credit unions' shared strategy for growth, called Unite for Good. To advance that effort, The League and CUNA have prepared materials to help you share the great news about the lifetime of savings using a Wisconsin credit union.
"By sharing this story on social media, you
not only make a strong case for the next generation to use credit
unions," said Christine Henzig, The League’s Director of Communications. "You equip
them with a powerful reason to contact their member of Congress with the
message ‘Don’t Tax My Credit
"This lifetime of savings and other benefits to members and communities, like those found in the Wisconsin Credit Union Scorecard, are all at risk of disappearing if credit unions are further taxed," she said.
The cooperative structure that returns benefits to members instead of shareholders has translated to consistently strong consumer satisfaction ratings for credit unions. A 2013 study by the Cooperative Network found that nearly three of every four respondents (74%) who indicated they were members of a cooperative said they were more likely to choose cooperatives over other businesses based on their past experiences, up from 71 percent in 2007.
Cooperative Network will issue a new media release to observe International Credit Union Day and highlight the credit union-specific details in the survey.
The Unite for Good effort is an internal growth strategy developed by CUNA in conjunction with its Board, state leagues, credit unions and system partners. The plan's action steps – to remove barriers, increase awareness and foster service excellence–are aimed at helping more credit unions become their members' primary financial institution by compelling members to see credit unions as their best financial partner.
