Fraud Scams: Investigations, Liabilities & Actions

Rayleen Pirnie, AAP, Founder & Professional Speaker | RP Payments Risk Consulting Services, LLC

Take a guided tour through four common frauds affecting our members, from common types of the scam to the credit union’s investigation, potential liability and actions. Since liability depends on what actually occurred leading up to the loss, taking a look at different variations of the same scam to understand liability shifts and investigative responsibilities is critical. Using real case studies, examine the darker side of our daily job: helping members after devastating frauds occur while uncovering our own obligations to our members.

Learning Objectives

  • Explore four common types of fraud, including red flags
  • Define appropriate investigation strategies for given situations
  • Isolate possible outcomes
  • Calculate credit union and/or member liability
