Founders' Circle

The Founders' Circle was introduced as a way to raise money to begin The Foundation and help it achieve its goals to promote credit union development, assist with the educational needs of credit union staff and volunteers, support programming to enhance financial literacy, and support the credit union system. Individuals, credit unions, and credit union partners were invited to join the Founders' Circle by making contributions based on specific donor levels. Each level was named after an individual who made an impact in the history of credit unions.

 

Edward Filene


The Edward A. Filene Level

Edward Filene (1860-1937) was a Boston merchant and philanthropist known as the “father of the credit union movement” in the United States, Filene gave speeches and wrote articles on the credit union idea and stumped the country to meet with credit union organizers, early state credit union leagues, and to win support for a national association.

Roy Bergengren

The Roy F. Bergengren Level

Roy Bergengren (1879-1955) was First Managing Director of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), Bergengren was a major credit union organizer who wrote many of the most influential credit union books and advocated for credit union legislation at the state and national levels.

The Charles G. Hyland Level

Charles G. Hyland (1892-1973)  was a credit union pioneer and CUNA Founder who organized over 600 credit unions in Wisconsin.
