About the Program 
The required procedures for handling garnishments on accounts containing federal benefit payments – including some new changes – are effective June 28, 2013. These garnishment procedures were implemented in May 2011, as an interim rule. This May, the federal benefit agencies announced that these procedures would become a final rule on June 28, 2013, but with some new language and requirements. This program will explain all the procedures that must be followed when a garnishment or a state tax levy is received against an accountholder who receives federal benefit payments.
