Credit Unions Are Committed to
Guard and Reserve Members

Wisconsin's credit unions are united in their efforts to do what is right for their 2.3 million members and the communities they serve.  This social responsibility was recently showcased as credt union representatives joined together to celebrate the industry's support of Wisconsin's Guard and Reserve service members and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) program.

In partnership with the ESGR, The Wisconsin Credit Union League  hosted a ceremony on October 22 that recognized the importance of protecting and promoting the employment and workplace rights of servicemen and women within Wisconsin credit unions.

Credit union representatives were joined by military and ESGR leaders at the ceremony where Brett Thompson, President and CEO of The Wisconsin Credit Union League, signed two ESGR Statements of Support (linked here); one on behalf of The League and another on behalf of all Wisconsin credit unions.

The signed statements pledge that The League and member credit unions:

  • Fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • Will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • Appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills Service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to employ Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans.
  • Will continually recognize and support our country's Service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.

This commitment is one recent examle of how credit unions are vested in and committed to making significant contribuitons to the communities they serve through their voluntary REAL Solutions programs and services, which put people before profit.

Brigadier General John McCoy (back row, 3rd from left) ESGR representatives Tom Thomas (back row, left), and Mike Williams (back row, 3rd from right) joined League President and CEO, Brett Thompson and representatives from Wisconsin's credit unions and system partners.

The ESGR is an office of the U.S. Department of Defense. It was established to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers. For more information on the ESGR program, click here.
