Wisconsin credit unions made an impact through service

 

Wisconsin credit unions continue their work as a force for good. Recently, they collaborated on a service project, extended resources to bring financial wellness to their communities and raised funds for the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation.

Credit union volunteers at Convention assembled financial literacy kits for younth and adults. See more photos from the Convention service project in our event summary.

 

  • Collected & donated 6,732 items as part of a first-of-its-kind service project at Convention. Volunteers helped prepare 250 bag lunches for a homeless shelter, made 190 financial literacy kits for the Boys & Girls Clubs and the YMCA, prepared 110 tioletry kits for a domestic violence shelter, and created 130 mother's day cards for social service agencies.

 

  • Improved member and consumer financial literacy during April's observance of Financial Literacy Month19 Wisconsin credit unions participated in Money Smart Week, offering financial learning opportunities to their members and the public. Wisconsin credit unions also collaborated with CUNA on the nationwide Youth Savings Challenge, helping 1,163 young savers stash $208,354 into savings accounts for an average of $179 per saver. A total of 91 new accounts were opened. Wisconsin credit unions and others who completed CUNA training courses in April also helped raise $5,000 for the National Credit Union Foundation's charity efforts.

 

  • Provided financial management DVDs to Wisconsin's Children Miracle Network Hospitals. The donated 5-box sets of the PBS Biz Kid$ series, which teaches kids about money management and entrepreneurship, were provided for the hospital's patient libraries as a source of information, entertainment and inspiration. The effort was a collaboration of Credit Unions for Kids, the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) and the W.C.U.L. Services Corp. With coordination from NCUF, other states supported the effort to ensure Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across America received the full series on DVD.

    Who says doing good isn't fun? Young professionals' fun photo booth at convention helped raise over $600 for the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation.

 

 

  • Raised money for the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation this spring. Convention-goers raised $4,960 through their bids on raffle items. Wisconsin credit unions' Young Professionals contributed another $618 as part of a 50/50 raffle and photo booth. The Foundation supports credit union development, educates credit union staff and volunteers, boosts financial literacy efforts statewide and supports the credit union system in times of need.

 

Wisconsin credit unions also had a busy first half of 2014 with invidual efforts in their communities that included granting scholarships, hosting "reality" events at schools to involve students in real-world financial decision-making, hosting member workshops on financial topics, raising funds for local charities and more.
