WEDC seeks input from credit unions

Credit unions are invited to a July 26 dialog with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) that will look at ways to make Wisconsin's financial industry a more competitive and robust sector of the state economy. The WEDC is the state's leading economic development entity that was created by Governor Scott Walker's special session on jobs and replaced the Department of Commerce in July 2011. FULL STORY

League, WI bankers groups urge lawmakers to support ATM bill
The Wisconsin Credit Union League, the Wisconsin Bankers Association and the Community Bankers of Wisconsin sent a joint letter to Wisconsin's Congressional delegation urging their co-sponsorship of a bill that would eliminate the requirement that a physical disclosure be placed on ATMs stating that fees may be charged. So far, Wisconsin's U.S. Representatives Sean Duffy, Gwen Moore and Tom Petri have signed on as bill co-sponsors. FULL STORY

Visitor finds help in WI for China's CU, co-op system
The Wisconsin League shared insights with a visitor from China in June with the goal of forming a national association for credit unions and a cooperative training and extension center in China Agricultural University. Ronghua Ju, an associate professor at the College of Economics and Management at the University, visited Credit Union House on the Capitol Square in Madison, Wis., where she shared her goals for credit union development in China. Business development conference invites credit union participation
Credit unions looking to expand their REAL Solutions may wish to participate in “Marketplace 2012, the Governor’s Conference on Minority Business Development,” an annual conference set for Oct. 15 and 16 in Milwaukee. The event helps Wisconsin’s minority, disabled veteran and women business enterprises network, build capacity and showcase their products and services. Wisconsin youth save nearly a quarter of a million dollars in April
Over $246,323 was saved by Wisconsin's young credit union members as part of the 2012 Youth Savings Challenge, held during the month of April in conjunction with National Credit Union Youth Week. During this year's challenge, 2,019 young members in Wisconsin under the age of 18 made deposits for an average of about $80 per child. 205 new youth accounts were opened. FULL STORY
