Credit union difference seen on national news show

A small, home-based credit union showcased the "credit union difference" for millions of Americans on the national news program CBS Sunday Morning. In Wisconsin in 2012, 4,547 consumers from 207 cities visited www.aSmarterChoice.org seeking information about credit unions, and 1,774 of those consumers conducted a successful online search, identifying one or more credit unions they were eligible to join if they fell within the required field of membership. Recipient announced for Foundation's Development Education (DE) Scholarship
Congratulations! Don Emmer of Best Advantage CU will receive the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation's Development Education Scholarship, worth up to $2,000. The DE program is a credit union philosophy immersion program that challenges attendees to apply cooperative problem solving to local and world issues. The Foundation supports grants and scholarships, financial education, credit union development and the CU system in times of need.

Connect members to insurance online
Today, 83% of consumers use the internet as part of their process to buy life insurance and 70% go online to get an auto insurance quote.  As people become more comfortable researching and purchasing online, they're buying everything from shoes to automobiles. When deciding which products to promote on their websites, credit unions should consider that their members are likely under-insured and not clear where to turn. FULL STORY

Current marketplace indicates growth through credit cards
One of the fundamental purposes of a credit union is to help members save money. Credit unions routinely do this by offering lower interest rates on loans and charging minimal fees for services. Both of these have helped credit unions attract a record number of new members over the last two years, as a growing number of consumers grew fed up with the fees at the nation's biggest banks and took their money to credit unions.
