NCUA proposal could stymie your plans for member service

Governor signs League-backed state regulatory reform bill
Governor Scott Walker signed a bill into law last week that represents the largest state regulatory reforms for credit unions in more than a decade.The legislation is an example of how credit unions are removing barriers to their success through strong advocacy and how stakeholders, regulators and legislators can achieve common-sense reforms to benefit Wisconsin consumers. Wisconsin played a big role in advocacy that affects credit union income
Credit unions' latest success in removing barriers that impede their progress relates to unrelated business income tax (UBIT). In a memorandum to its examiners, the IRS provides guidance that is consistent with recent court decisions involving Wisconsin's own Community First and Colorado's Bellco credit unions. Previously, the IRS had not uniformly applied those court decisions outside Wisconsin or Colorado. FULL STORY
