Hosting a Retirement Fair

January 22, 2014

1:00 - 4:00 pm

Credit Union House
1 East Main Street, Suite 101
Madison, WI

New interactive retirement tool available to WI CUs, Demo set for Jan 22.
You're invited to a hands-on showcase of the "Route Your Retirement Fair" program from 1-4 p.m., Jan. 22, at Credit Union House in Madison that will teach you about this new resource that can help your credit union host an interactive retirement education event.

Mark Lynch, Field Coach with NCUF, will guide this free event and share:

  • A demonstration of the "Route Your Retirement Fair" program.  The program and its turnkey materials will be made available starting in 2014 to Wisconsin credit unions through the Wisconsin Credit Union League. Developed by the National Credit Union Foundation's (NCUF's) REAL Solutions Program in conjunction with CUNA Mutual Group, the program engages workers in making lifestyle choices for their retirement years while assessing the cost of supporting those choices.

  • The benefits of offering Retirement Fairs for your employees, members and communities. Mark will share the experiences of credit unions from several states that have offered the retirement fair opportunity to help their members and communities and the benefits of the outreach for the host credit unions.

The program is modeled after the 'reality fair' concept many credit unions use with local high schools to engage teens in the financial decision making challenges involved in living as a self-supporting adult, only with the emphasis on retirement living so that choices can be made now to improve future results.

According to the latest research of investors aged between 21 and 50 years, only 39% are confident they will have enough money for retirement. And of those that are confident, two thirds have yet to develop an actual retirement plan. To further compound the problem, most are underestimating how long they will live in retirement.
