Activists update state Assembly Committee on CU service

Wisconsin Activists explained the issues affecting credit unions and their 2.3 million members at an informational hearing recently for the Assembly Committee on Financial Institutions.

Testimony was provided by Jack Gill, First Community CU of Beloit; Kimberly Youngblood of Focus CU; and Kevin Hauser of Westby Co-op CU. They explained:

  • how credit unions are meeting member and community needs;

  • the crisis of creeping complexity due to regulatory compliance burdens;

  • credit union governance, with boards of directors elected from among the membership;

  • expanded member convenience through shared branching; and

  • agriculture and business lending.

Their comments highlighted the "credit union difference" with stories of collaboration among credit unions and highlighted programs that benefit members.

Activists play a leading role in ensuring legislators appreciate the value that credit unions deliver in Wisconsin as member-owned financial co-ops. Learn more about the Activist program today!
