Free roundtable in Madison explains how to strengthen credit unions

Attend a roundtable session on Thursday, May 2 from 10:30 to noon at Credit Union House in Madison to learn from two of CUNA's senior political affairs staff from Washington, D.C., how The League's Payroll Deduction Program offers an easy way for employees to help strengthen the credit union movement.

The roundtable will include a short presentation and roundtable discussion led by:

  • Trey Hawkins, VP Political Affairs

  • Meredith Hurt, Political Programs Manager, CULAC

All credit unions are encouraged to send representatives to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn and share ideas with senior CUNA D.C. staff.

Payroll Deduction  helps employees set aside small donations each payday to help fund accounts that support pro-credit union lawmakers, legislators in key positions and candidates. With widespread participation from employees making small but regular contributions at any level they feel comfortable, the donations can add up to tremendous success and political clout for the movement.

"If just half of all credit union employees donated $1 a week, we'd exceed the goals established for our state's political giving," said Jim Drogue, The League's SVP of Credit Union Development & Fundraising. Still, less than 2% of Wisconsin’s more than 7,500 CU employees are enrolled.

Individuals can use Payroll Deduction to jointly contribute to CULAC, the federal PAC and our state PAC, WCULAF, or to deposit funds into their individual Credit Union Members’ Conduit Account. The latter allows the account holder to designate which candidates and campaigns receive contributions.

The Payroll Deduction Program plays a key role in the credit union system's Plan to Win, a legislative and advocacy strategy to promote and protect credit unions through pro-CU legislation, minimize the regulatory burden and preserve an environment for credit unions that improves service to members.
