Governor Walker signs credit union-supported legislation

League Vice President of Government Affairs Tom Liebe and Government Affairs Specialist Sarah Wainscott were present as Governor Scott Walker signed two credit union-supported bills into law at the Wisconsin State Capitol July 5.

The State Assembly and Senate passed Assembly Bill 58, which makes important CUSO updates, by unanimous votes. No amendments were offered in spite of early opposition and efforts by the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association (WATDA) to statutorily limit certain activities CUSOs could engage in. That effort was opposed by The League and ultimately killed.

League staff Tom Liebe and Sarah Wainscott  (second and fourth from left, respectively) are joined by Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Rural Issues Chair Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center, third from right) and representatives from the Department of Financial Intitutions and Wisconsin Bankers Association at the signing of AB 58.

Senate Bill 116, relating to fund transfers under the Uniform Commercial Code, was also signed into law Friday. Prior to introduction of this measure, Representative Joe Sanfelippo (R-West Allis), of the Assembly Financial Institutions Committee, contacted The League to get credit unions' perspective on the proposal.
