Want to serve youth? Improve outreach to Hispanics

Hispanics are the youngest of the major races and ethnicities, with 40% under the age of 21 in 2011. While Hispanics account for about 16% of the U.S. population, by 2018, about 1 in 5 Americans will be of Hispanic origin, increasing to 1 in 3 by 2060. Take advantage of new resources from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and Coopera Consulting to aid your outreach, including a series of archived webinars that will help you design a strategic Hispanic marketing plan, set baseline growth goals and measure progress.

Don't forget!
Hispanic Heritage Month
, which runs from September 15 to October 15, is a great time to reach out to this growing community!

Whether you're first contemplating service to Hispanics, are working on a plan or have been involved in Hispanic outreach for some time, take advantage of resources that can help you leap ahead. CUNA's Hispanic Resource Center offers materials to guide you as your program evolves, including:

  • An overview about the Hispanic market

  • A quick-start kit including business plans, training resources, regulatory information, ID & documentation tools, sample policies and more

  • Links to needed products and training materials

  • A free monthly e-newsletter with tips and information to improve your outreach

  • An archive of free recorded webinars on strategy and service topics

  • Links to research sites, news and government agencies with more information and resources

There's no requirement to be a CEO to participate in any of the archived webinars or live webinars Sept. 17 and later in November on enhancing your Hispanic outreach and service strategies.

A record 31 million Hispanics ages 5 and older are proficient in English, because many have been in this country for some time. Many are the children of immigrants. And with immigration reform being debated by Congress, and the cost of naturalization costing some families as much as $10,000, opportunities to serve Hispanics will likely continue to increase.
