Credit unions and youth-run branches
Wisconsin credit unions oversee approximately 100 youth-operated credit union branches inside schools - more than in almost any other state. Young savers have stashed more than $3 million in deposit accounts! The branches are staffed and used by students who learn to use financial products - like credit cards - responsibly. Though these branches operate at a cost to credit unions, not-for-profit credit unions offer them in hopes of helping students avoid debt, complete their educations, and become self-supporting members of the economy.
In an effort to show the statewide impact of credit unions' efforts to educate youth about money and encourage saving, The League is asking credit unions to report information on youth branch activity.
By providing this information, you'll help advance The League's REAL Solutions initiative, which focuses on the things credit unions do that typify a not-for-profit, member-owned institution. Your credit union does not have to be a REAL Solutions participant to report this information.
Please ask the person at your credit union responsible for your youth branch activities to visit our online form to update our records.
