Call to Action: seek support of regulatory relief bill that can boost lending

by Christine Henzig, Director of Communications Nov 20, 2017

Contact our U.S. Senators to push for Common Sense regulatory relief

Credit unions have a great opportunity to advance federal regulatory relief, and we need everyone to take just a few seconds to contact Wisconsin's U.S. Senators to ask for their support!

The U.S. Senate Banking Committee is preparing to mark up a bill – S. 2155, the Economic Growth, regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act - the Senate’s bipartisan regulatory relief package.

Among other pro-credit union provisions, it would classify 1-4 unit, non-owner occupied dwellings as real estate (not business) loans, freeing up as much as $4 billion in additional capital for credit unions to lend. This has been strongly championed by Wisconsin credit unions, who advocated on this issue in Washington, D.C. at our recent Hike the Hill.

Our Congressional delegation has voiced buy-in for this particular provision, but we need a strong push to get it through Committee as part of a full package of reform measures. The rest of the country is counting on us to ensure that Wisconsin Senators - in particular Senator Baldwin - will not waver!

Please act immediately; markup is scheduled for 9 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday, December 5. It takes just seconds to send a pre-drafted email to our U.S. Senators.
