Summary

The President/CEO is the chief executive officer of the Credit Union and is responsible for the overall strategic direction, financial performance, safety and soundness, regulatory compliance, and member service excellence of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the President/CEO provides leadership to management and staff while ensuring the Credit Union operates in accordance with its mission, bylaws, policies, and applicable federal and Wisconsin state laws and regulations.

At approximately $48 to $50 million in assets, this role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring strong leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to work closely with staff, members, regulators, and the Board.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

· Execute the Credit Union’s mission, vision, and strategic plan as approved by the Board.

· Serve as the primary liaison between management and the Board of Directors.

· Provide timely, accurate reporting to the Board on financial performance, risk, operations, and strategic initiatives.

· Recommend policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives for Board consideration.

· Support Board development, education, and governance best practices.

· A strong understanding and successful history of originating consumer lending, and mortgage lending, as well as strong collection knowledge and experience.

Financial Management & Performance

· Ensure the financial safety and soundness of the Credit Union.

· Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and asset/liability management & work closely with, and provide guidance to the lending team .

· Monitor key financial metrics including net worth, loan growth, delinquency, liquidity, and earnings.

· Ensure effective leadership and communication with the lending team, internal controls and sound accounting practices.

· Work with external auditors, examiners, and vendors as required.

Operations & Member Service

· Direct day-to-day operations of the Credit Union, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and high service standards.

· Promote a member-focused culture that emphasizes service quality, responsiveness, and community trust.

· Oversee lending, deposit operations, collections, and branch or service delivery channels.

· Evaluate and implement technology and operational improvements appropriate to the Credit Union’s size.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

· Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including NCUA requirements and Wisconsin statutes and regulations.

· Serve as a primary point of contact for regulators and examiners, including state and federal supervisory authorities, as applicable.

· Maintain effective risk management, internal controls, and business continuity planning.

· Ensure policies and procedures are current, documented, and followed.

Human Resources & Culture

· Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate management and staff.

· Foster a positive, ethical, and collaborative workplace culture.

· Ensure appropriate staffing levels, compensation practices, and performance management.

Community & External Relations

· Represent the Credit Union in the community, at industry events, and with business partners.

· Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, trade associations, and community organizations.

· Promote the Credit Union’s brand, values, and community presence.

· Promote professional development and succession planning.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

· Minimum 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience in a credit union or financial institution.

· Senior management or executive-level experience preferred, particularly in a small to mid-sized credit union.

· Strong understanding of credit union operations, lending, compliance, and financial management.

· Knowledge of NCUA regulations, statutes pertaining to Wisconsin credit unions, and credit union best practices.

Knowledge & Skills

· Thorough knowledge of NCUA regulations and credit union best practices.

· Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, ALM, and financial analysis.

· Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

· Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational involvement.

· High ethical standards and commitment to member service.

Working Conditions:

· Office-based with occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and training.

· Extended hours may be required during examinations, audits, or special projects.
