The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) Exploring Why™ Workshop is an experiential training program that credit unions and system partners can use to help their employees connect to the credit union difference and discover new and better ways to drive value for the members and organization. Exploring Why is intended for all credit union employees regardless of tenure.  

The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) Exploring Why™ Workshop consists of eight modules focused on a deeper understanding of the past, present and future of The Movement. The modules are: 

The Value of “Why” 

  • Discover the importance of knowing your why and how it impacts you 

Business and Social Mission 

  • Examine how credit unions work towards and find balance 

Cooperative Principles & Values 

  • Deep dive into the 8 cooperative principles 

Credit Union Champions 

  • Uncover how leaders of the movement impact our credit unions moving forward 

Financial Well-being for All 

  • Jump into how credit unions are championing financial well-being for all and actions you can take \

Aligning Personal Values 

  • Distinguish how our core values can align with the values of our credit unions and cooperative movement 

Making Valued-Based Decisions 

  • Explore opportunities to align business decisions to credit union and personal values 

Connecting Your Why

  •  Identify actions you can take to bring your learning back to the credit union

Speakers

Chad HelminakChad Helminak, Director of Programs & Impact | National Credit Union Foundation  

Chad is the Director of Programs & Impact at the National Credit Union Foundation. In this role, he leads the Credit Union Development Educator (DE) Program and efforts to support the cooperative business model, encourage sustainable development and inspire organizations to foster a purpose-driven culture. He is a facilitator and creative consultant with more than 16 years of experience in the credit union industry specializing in areas of leadership development, human-centered design and strategic communications. Prior to joining the Foundation, Chad has worked at CUNA Mutual Group, Heritage Credit Union, Filene Research Institute and the Wisconsin Credit Union League.

 

Josh RobertsJosh Roberts, VP of System Collaboration & Development | Wisconsin Credit Union League

 Josh is responsible for promoting credit union service and outreach, fostering opportunities for credit union growth, and leading The League’s development program for Wisconsin's young credit union professionals, the YP Network. You can also find Josh helping Wisconsin's small credit unions with operational consulting, provides strategy assistance by facilitating Strategic Planning Sessions, and providing various training for credit union leaders, staff, and boards. Additionally, Josh spearheads diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for The League and its member credit unions and is also the League Liaison for the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation and oversees its operations.

Josh has nearly 20 years of experience in the financial industry, having served credit unions as a vice president, controller, and compliance officer.  He is a graduate of CUNA Management School, where he served as Class President, and a 2016 graduate of the Credit Union Development Educators (CUDE) program.  

Josh currently serves on the Executive Committee of the CUNA Lending Council and is Vice-Chair of CUNA Lending Council’s Member Resources Committee and Vice-Chair of the Engagement Committee. In addition, he is engaged in the community, serving as Board Chair for the Milwaukee Area Technical College Accounting Advisory Board, and as a member of the Milwaukee Area Technical College Banking and Finance Advisory Board. He has previously held positions and volunteered with local neighborhood associations, the American Red Cross, and local environmental organizations.
