The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) Exploring Why™ Workshop is an experiential training program that credit unions and system partners can use to help their employees connect to the credit union difference and discover new and better ways to drive value for the members and organization. Exploring Why is intended for all credit union employees regardless of tenure.  

The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) Exploring Why™ Workshop consists of eight modules focused on a deeper understanding of the past, present and future of The Movement. The modules are: 

The Value of “Why” 

  • Discover the importance of knowing your why and how it impacts you 

Business and Social Mission 

  • Examine how credit unions work towards and find balance 

Cooperative Principles & Values 

  • Deep dive into the 8 cooperative principles 

Credit Union Champions 

  • Uncover how leaders of the movement impact our credit unions moving forward 

Financial Well-being for All 

  • Jump into how credit unions are championing financial well-being for all and actions you can take \

Aligning Personal Values 

  • Distinguish how our core values can align with the values of our credit unions and cooperative movement 

Making Valued-Based Decisions 

  • Explore opportunities to align business decisions to credit union and personal values 

Connecting Your Why

  •  Identify actions you can take to bring your learning back to the credit union

Speakers

Josh Roberts

Vice President of System Collaboration & Development | The League

Josh is responsible for promoting credit union service and outreach and fostering opportunities for credit union growth. You can also find Josh helping Wisconsin's small credit unions with operational consulting, provides strategy assistance by facilitating Strategic Planning Sessions, and providing various training for credit union leaders, staff, and boards. Additionally, Josh spearheads diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for The League and its member credit unions and is also the League Liaison for the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation and oversees its operations.

Josh has nearly 20 years of experience in the financial industry, having served credit unions as a vice president, controller, and compliance officer.  He is a graduate of CUNA Management School, where he served as Class President, and a 2016 graduate of the Credit Union Development Educators (CUDE) program.  

Josh currently serves on the Executive Committee of the CUNA Lending Council and is Vice-Chair of CUNA Lending Council’s Member Resources Committee and Vice-Chair of the Engagement Committee. In addition, he is engaged in the community, serving as Board Chair for the Milwaukee Area Technical College Accounting Advisory Board, and as a member of the Milwaukee Area Technical College Banking and Finance Advisory Board. He has previously held positions and volunteered with local neighborhood associations, the American Red Cross, and local environmental organizations.

Tina Liegel, CUDE

Learning and Development Specialist | Heartland Credit Union

With over 25 years of experience in the credit union industry, Tina has dedicated the past decade to Learning and Development, showcasing her versatility across various areas within the credit union. Her responsibilities include designing and implementing learning resources, conducting staff training sessions, and providing ongoing support across all departments within the organization. 

Tina serves as a champion for Heartland's emerging leaders, inspiring and encouraging staff to engage in leadership development opportunities. Additionally, she plays a key role in coordinating and organizing the credit union's community involvement events.

Driven by her passion for personal and professional development, Tina participated in the inaugural 2018 Wild Initiative and is a 2019 graduate of the Credit Union Development Educators (CUDE) program. Tina currently serves as the President of the Madison Area Chapter of Credit Unions where she utilizes her leadership skills and industry knowledge to foster collaboration and promote positive change within the local credit union community.
