The League Legal Affairs Attorney’s Conference brings together attorneys from Wisconsin’s Credit Unions for a day of discussion around Compliance and Legal matters of importance to our members. 

*Please note this special event is limited to attorneys/legal counsel that work in credit unions.

*The League will apply for CLE credits for this event.

Judy Dahn, Federal Regulatory Compliance Counsel, CUCO | America's Credit Unions

Judy Dahn, Federal Regulatory Compliance Counsel at America’s Credit Unions, will lead an in-depth session on managing compliance risk within today’s evolving regulatory environment. Drawing on her extensive expertise, Judy will explore the NCUA’s approach to risk and working with examiners, best practices for building and sustaining a strong compliance program, and the importance of fostering a culture of compliance across the organization. The session will also provide insights into effective compliance management systems.

Simone Suri

SVP, Chief Administrative Officer & General Counsel | Members Cooperative Credit Union
Simone Suri serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, and General Counsel for Members Cooperative Credit Union, an over $1billion institution headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota. She began her career in private practice, representing clients that included credit unions, before joining the Minnesota Credit Union Network as General Counsel and Vice President of Human Resources, where she developed a deep commitment to the credit union movement. In 2010, Simone transitioned to Members Cooperative Credit Union, bringing her expertise in legal, strategic, and human resources leadership to the organization, where she continues to play a key role in advancing its mission. 

Paul Guttormsson

Senior Vice President & General Counsel | The League

Paul drafts regulatory comment letters on behalf of credit unions, helping to shape regulations that affect credit union operations, income, and member service. He also supports The Legal Affairs team with telephone and email assistance to credit unions as well as research and analysis to develop The League’s ii releases, and he is a frequent presenter for League compliance roundtables and webinars. In addition, he oversees The League’s forms program.

Paul graduated with honors from UW-Eau Claire in 1985 and worked as a newspaper editor for several years before attending the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he graduated with honors in 1994. He joined The League in 2001.

Kim Hoppe

Vice President of Legal Affairs | The League

Kim is a familiar voice to Wisconsin credit unions as part of our Legal Affairs team, offering guidance by phone and email on compliance issues, and practical insights as part of League compliance trainings. Kim also helps research regulatory issues and provides guidance and education to credit unions regarding those regulations. 

Kim graduated from UW-Parkside with a business administration degree and received her law degree with honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Kim joined The League in 2012. 

 

Brett Thompson

Consultant | Office of Credit Unions, Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions.

Brett Thompson served as President & CEO of The Wisconsin Credit Union League for over 22 years, representing the interests of Wisconsin’s credit unions and their 3.9 million members. During Brett’s tenure, he oversaw the opening of The League’s Credit Union House in Madison, the growth of the Compliance Specialists program to reduce regulatory burden on credit unions, and the creation of Saver’s Sweepstakes®, a statewide program to encourage healthy savings habits.  Prior to joining The League, he was a private practice attorney.   Brett is currently sharing his extensive experience in the credit union movement as a consultant with the Office of Credit Unions, Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions. 

Judy Dahn

Federal Regulatory Compliance Counsel, CUCO | America's Credit Unions
Judy Dahn is Federal Regulatory Compliance Counsel with America’s Credit Unions, where she advises credit unions on navigating complex regulatory requirements and compliance risk. She brings deep experience in consumer financial services, having previously held roles at Rocket Mortgage and Quicken Loans, where she managed legal risk, supported regulatory adherence, and guided cross-functional teams on policy and operational compliance. Judy combines her legal expertise with practical industry insight to help credit unions strengthen their compliance programs and respond effectively to evolving regulatory expectations.
