Make your Members' Voices Heard at State GAC

by Sammy Dennis Nov 04, 2019

Be sure your credit union is well represented as the Movement takes over Madison for the State Government Affairs Conference on January 20. Because our strength lies in numbers, everyone is strongly encouraged to attend.

A strong showing at the Capitol helps to:

Educate lawmakers, communicate credit union priorities

Sharing stories about how your credit union puts members and communities before profit is the best way to illustrate and advocate for the Credit Union Difference.

Fresh off meetings with bankers, who have their lobby day the week before, legislators need to hear from you. This is your chance to control the messaging about our Movement.

Attendees will share Wisconsin credit unions' Scorecard, which highlights the value that 3.3 million Wisconsinites receive as member-owners of not-for-profit financial institutions. Activists will also share the Movement's top priorities with the legislators that represent their credit union and members.

Enhance credit union influence with your engagement

When bills or confusing and misleading messaging hits the desk of your legislators, will they know who to turn to with questions or for clarification? Strong grassroots and relationship building at the State GAC helps policymakers know who they can trust on issues that affect credit unions.

With now more than 3.3 million members statewide, issues that affect credit unions affect thousands of consituents in each legislative district. (Update your credit union's data now to provide a more accurate picture to legislators in January.

Our strength is in numbers, so unless you participate, you risk policymakers underestimating or disregarding the effect that their decisions have on your members.

Each year we look at trends and the latest insights to keep you informed about what's going on in Madison and how this might impact your credit union.
