Join us in honoring this year's recipient of the Louise Herring Award, which recognizes outstanding adherence to credit unions' member-focused philosophy.
The award is named after Louise McCarren Herring,
a credit union pioneer who believed that the operational application of credit union philosophy helped better people's lives.
- Park City Credit Union - First Place ($50-250 million in assets). The credit union involved all employees in an initiative called Park City Cares and uses a logo and #SharetheCare to track it on social media. The event was launched in February on Random Acts of Kindness Day. It reimburses staff when they perform small acts of kindness anywhere they see it in the community as well as coordinated events such as giving $1 to the first 100 people visiting a thrift store's $1-for-a-bag-full sale. Employees helped name the initiative and brainstormed a list of possible random acts to perform. The effort allows all of the credit union's employees to play a more forward facing role in representing the credit union's social responsibility. The program has four objectives: innovate, invigorate, inspire and impress.
Winners receive a plaque and are honored on social media, at a local chapter meeting and at The League's annual Convention. Winners also receive assistance to share news about their accolade with local media, as awards are an excellent opportunity to create awareness about the value of belonging to a member-owned financial cooperative.
All first-place winners are submitted to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for national-level award judging, for their chance to be honored at CUNA's 2018 Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
