Wisconsin again has captured national attention!
Altra Federal Credit Union was presented with a national-level Desjardins Financial Literacy Award for 2017.
They were honored at the 2018 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
The credit union was honored for a long list of youth and adult financial education initiatives. The credit union advanced to national-level judging for having achieved first-place state-level awards in the category for credit unions with $500M+ in assets. It was recognized at a recent chapter meeting.
"What sets not-for-profit credit unions apart from for-profit financial institutions is the emphasis they place on improving members' financial wellness, and that's achieved through financial education," said League President & CEO Brett Thompson.
"Credit unions' mission is to serve all members and improve their financial position by doing so. That benefits not just individuals and families but strengthens communities and our state economy," he emphasized.
"Altra has set a high standard for commitment to financial empowerment with an amazing list of initiatives and partnerships," Thompson continued.
"When a board and staff are aligned in their vision of achieving credit unions' purpose, there is truly no limit to how they can improve the lives of Wisconsin citizens. Congratulations to everyone at Altra for this achievement and for keeping a continued, strong focus on doing what's right because it's simply the right thing to do," he added.
Accepting the Award (L to R): Jack Peplinski, President & CEO, Hayley Bangsberg, Real Estate Closing Supervisor, and Mary Isaacs, EVP/CFO.
The League also congratulates our other state-level award winners: Badger-Globe, Co-op, Glacier Hills, Park City, Royal and Taylor Credit Unions. They were recognized recently for financial education
, community service
and adherence to credit unions' member-focused philosophy.
