Credit Unions Represented on Governor's Task Force on Student Debt

Earlier this year,  UW Credit Union President/CEO Paul Kundert was appointed by Governor Evers to serve on the Governor's Task Force on Student Debt. Kundert's presence on the Task Force ensures credit unions will continue to play a key role in working to combat the student debt crisis. In addition to his service on the Task Force, Kundert is a member of both The League's Government Affairs Committee and CUNA's Advocacy Committee.

Regulation D Change Is Now Permanent

The Federal Reserve recently announced that the amendment to Regulation D last month, eliminating the six-per-month on certain kinds of convenient transfers from savings deposit accounts, will be a permanent change.

The League and Activists asked members of Wisconsin's Congressional Delegation to encourage the Fed to take up the matter. Activists' relationships and persistent advocacy proved valuable to building awareness for our request for this change.

2020 Will Feature New Faces

The Wisconsin State Legislature will have many new faces in January 2021, thanks to a series of announcements from legislators not seeking reelection for their current public office.

Eight State Senators will not return to their Senate office next session. Former State Senator Tom Tiffany (R-Minocqua) was elected as the newest Congressman representing the 7th Congressional District and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) is a strong front runner to replace retiring Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner in the 5th Congressional District.

Thirteen Representatives will not return to represent their current Assembly district. Representatives Stafsholt (R- New Richmond), Felzkowski (R- Irma), Ballweg (R-Markesan) and Sargent (D-Madison) are running for a State Senate seat.

With this level of turnover in public office, relationship building, with candidates in advance of the fall election and with newly elected officials after the election, is even more crucial.
