State Leagues and CUNA Meet to Discuss Advocacy

The League’s Government Affairs team met with their counterparts from CUNA and other state leagues this week to strategize and collaborate.

This annual meeting helps credit unions’ government affairs professionals enhance overall advocacy through shared resources, best practices, big picture strategies, and effective messaging. This group meets weekly as well, regarding ongoing advocacy efforts and latest developments in DC and state capitols.

Field of Membership Modernization Passes Committee

Last month, the House Financial Services Committee advanced H.R. 7003, Expanding Financial Access for Underserved Communities Act, on a party-line vote.

Although Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) voted with other Republicans against the bill, The League and CUNA had a productive meeting with staff in advance of the hearing. We’re continuing conversations with his office for feedback on adjustments or additions that could change the Congressman's vote to a 'yes.'

Grassroots Alert: Oppose Changes to the Interchange System

Last month, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on interchange fees. It's critical  Wisconsin’s Senators continue to see strong opposition to any changes to the current interchange system.

Note: If your credit union serves Minnesota, Illinois, or Iowa, all three states have a Senator on Judiciary, adding to the importance of messages from those Activists!
