Every October, credit unions around the globe pause to celebrate what makes them different, and this year, that celebration carries a message more timely than ever. International Credit Union (ICU) Day® 2026 falls on Thursday, October 15, marking the 78th anniversary of a tradition that began in 1948. This year's theme, "Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World" cuts right to the heart of why credit unions matter.

A Theme Built for This Moment

Credit union across the world have celebrated International Credit Union Day on the third Thursday of October since 1948. Credit unions have always offered something different: clarity, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to people over profit. Credit unions don't just provide financial services, they provide stability. They are trusted neighbors, community anchors, and financial partners who see members as people, not account numbers.

As the World Council of Credit Unions put it, "Credit unions and financial cooperatives cut through the complexity with something enduring: trust, stability and an unwavering commitment to people over profit."

Order Your 2026 ICU Day Pins

The Worldwide Foundation of Credit Unions has once again created a commemorative ICU Day pin. This small but meaningful symbol of the global credit union movement highlights the values we all share. This year's pin is sponsored by Velera, and proceeds go directly toward advancing cooperative finance and expanding financial inclusion worldwide.

New this year, The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation is proud to partner with WFCU to offer ICU Day 2026 pins through our fundraiser and 30% of all sales will be donated to The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation. Ordering pins through The League's link is a simple, impactful way to:

The Movement Starts With Us

ICU Day is a global celebration, but it's built on local pride.
