Summary

The Accounting Manager will assist our CFO in developing, implementing, and maintaining the financial accounting systems which provides for (a) the control of the credit union's assets, and (b) the maintenance of a financial database to be used as input to various financial schedules, statements, reports, and analysis. Assists with ensuring that all credit union financial policies and procedures are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Our Accounting Manager will foster our "United For You" service promise which requires taking personal responsibility for providing outstanding member service that builds loyalty and supports a service selling environment. Our Accounting Manager will also work collaboratively to foster a culture that encourages diversity and independent thinking and a member-centric, digital organization to meet or exceed UnitedOne's mission, strategic objectives, and promote the overall success of the credit union.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and maintains the overall plans and objectives for the financial accounting area as they pertain to State and Federal regulations and to overall credit union operations.
  • Oversees, mentors, and develops the Accounting Department Staff.
  • Conducts coaching sessions, and employee evaluations according to established Credit Union guidelines.
  • Assists with creating and updating procedures for all job functions they oversee. Provides continuous review for efficiencies, profitability, productivity, and risk management.
  • Assists with preparing and analyzing management reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Prepares the quarterly 5300 call report.
  • Ensures general ledgers and related accounts are maintained, balanced, and reconciled. Understands ACH and share draft processing, approves accounts payable for payments, and tax preparation.
  • Oversees the debit card program to ensure a good member experience as well as a profitable, well-run program.
  • Maintains responsibility for mitigating loss and risk exposure in regard to ACH, share drafts, payroll, plastics and check processing.
  • Leads the annual ACH audit and other annual internal and external audits as well as regulatory exams.
  • Possesses an ability to work in a member-centric, digital organization including supporting advancements as they occur.
  • Welcomes the opportunity to learn new technology and innovation and works to stay updated on the latest technology advancements.
  • Complies with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Qualifications

  •  2-5 years of financial accounting or related experience and understanding of GAAP required.
  •  Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent 5-7 years related financial experience. CPA license and/or AAP certification a plus. 
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of activities of financial institutions and the required accounting treatment and reconciliation procedures of those activities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and spreadsheets; ability to learn new programs.
