This experiential training empowers employees of all levels to understand and leverage the Credit Union Difference to drive greater value for your members and organization. The interactive workshop incorporates lessons from National Credit Union Foundation's signature Development Education (DE) Program.

Learning Objectives

  • The structural and philosophical differences between credit unions and other financial institutions, and how it impacts business operations and decision-making.
  • How to communicate your organization’s “why,” their personal “why,” and tell the story of how you drive value for your members.
  • Opportunities to take ownership in finding new and better ways to meet the needs of your members and organization.

Agenda

Day 1: August 23 | 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

The Credit Union Difference

Learn about the structural and philosophical differences between credit unions and other financial institutions as well as how to leverage those differences to create competitive advantages in the marketplace.

Cooperative Principles

Most people think of credit unions primarily as financial institutions, but our fundamental values and structure also identify us as cooperatives. As cooperative financial institutions, credit unions stand for financial democracy through our Cooperative Principles.

Origins of the Credit Union Movement

A perspective on the past can often help us understand the present. We are on an ever-changing path with a never-changing purpose.

Day 2: August 25 | 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

Empathy

What can empathy do and what does it look like in a credit union?  Empathy builds trust, generates business, and can be credit unions’ competitive advantage in the marketplace. Empathy is a game changer, not just for us but to effectively help our members now and in the future.

Philosophy in Action

Credit unions have the opportunity to be more than just another financial institution. Share stories of the credit union difference in action and how credit unions continue to serve and find solutions for members.

Our Aligned Values

Link your personal core values with the values of the credit union movement and understand how we can live our values to meet existing and future challenges in the marketplace.
