2020 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference

In late February, over 50 credit union Activists from across Wisconsin traveled to Washington D.C to participate in the 2020 Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference. Throughout the week, Wisconsin attendees interacted with over 5,500 credit union industry leaders and partners throughout the country, heard from thought-provoking speakers, and most importantly, visited with members of the Wisconsin Congressional delegation. Sunday Welcome Reception

To kickoff the week, attendees were treated to a welcome reception where they were able to converse with other attendees from Wisconsin.

Monday Briefing

On Monday, The League briefed on the schedule and talking points for their meetings with elected officials. The designated meeting leads were given REAL Solutions® Scorecards and supplemental pages on how credit unions impact Wisconsin and the elected leaders' specific districts

CULAC Sweepstakes

Throughout the week, attendees had the opportunity to participate in the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) annual Sweepstakes. CULAC is credit unions' PAC that supports candidates for federal office. Wisconsin attendees raised over $7,000 for the Sweepstakes, a $535 increase from 2019!

Congratulations to Sarah Menihan of UW Credit Union, who won one of the 50 prizes up for grabs!

CUNA's Advocacy Committee and CULAC Trustee Committees Meetings

In conjunction with CUNA GAC, CUNA's Advocacy Committee and CULAC's Board of Trustees met while in D.C.

Kim Sponem of Summit Credit Union and Paul Kundert of UW Credit Union serve on CUNA's Advocacy Committee, which advises CUNA staff and provides policy recommendations to CUNA's Board of Directors.

During CULAC's Board of Trustees committee meeting, Lori Horstman of Altra Federal Credit Union participated in a discussion on strategies related to fundraising for the 2020 election cycle as well as the 2020 CULAC Sweepstakes.

Hill Office Visits 

During visits with the Wisconsin Congressional delegation, attendees discussed an array of issues, including the value of credit unions' tax status and protecting members' information through federal data security protections. Attendees also shared the REAL Solutions® Scorecard to highlight the benefits that credit unions offer communities in each legislator's district.
