In 2019, The League's 7 Rivers Region Chapter received a $3,000 REAL Solutions® Initiative Grant from The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation. Here's what Janelle Black, the Fundraising Liaison for 7 Rivers, had to share about the impact this grant made for area high school students:

"On Tuesday, February 25th, 2020, The 3rd Annual Finance & Investment Challenge Bowl was held at Western Technical Campus in La Crosse, WI. Twenty-four teams from ten different schools in the coulee region competed in a quiz-style financial literacy competition including topics like personal finance, economics, accounting, and financial institutions.

This tournament is special because it's solely funded and voluntarily staffed by 10 credit unions, including Oakdale Credit Union, 1st Community Credit Union, Verve a Credit Union, Arcadia Credit Union, Tomah Area Credit Union, Governmental Employees Credit Union, Altra Federal Credit Union, Westby Co-op Credit Union, Co-op Credit Union, and Dairyland Power Credit Union, along with the 7 Rivers Region Chapter of Credit Unions, the DFI, Western Technical College, Manpower, The Foundation, and Asset Builders.

Thanks to the generosity of The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation's REAL Solutions® Initiative efforts, we were able to award the 1st and 2nd place teams with a $500 scholarship per person and $250 scholarship per person, respectively, totaling $3,000 in scholarships toward an institution of higher learning.

Sparta High School Team #2 took 1st place and Onalaska Team #1 took 2nd place. The scholarship offered this year was very well received by teachers, students, and other credit unions, and is something we would like to continue to offer going forward. Thank you to The Foundation for giving these students funding for their future educational endeavors!"
