Whether it's giving back, awarding scholarships, creating community, providing innovative solutions, or fostering financial literacy (and so much more), here's how Wisconsin's credit unions supported their members and communities in May.

Giving Back

Royal Credit Union partnering with local non-profits for diaper drive
Royal Credit Union is teaming up with three local non-profits to host its inaugural diaper drive. The nonprofits include Feed My People Food Bank, St. Croix Valley Food Bank, and Diaper Bank of Minnesota. “As many as 50% of families are struggling to afford enough diapers for their babies, yet the cost of diapers is not covered by government assistance programs like WIC,” says Heidi Cornelius, Community Engagement Coordinator at Royal Credit Union. “We are proud to support this vital cause and make a positive impact in the communities we serve.” (Royal Credit Union, 5/6)

Credit Unions in Fox Cities join Appleton non-profit to combat period poverty
On Tuesday morning, the Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Union gathered with a local non-profit to help fight period poverty in the area. Jake’s Network of Hope is an Appleton-based non-profit that serves as a hygiene bank hub for the region, providing many essential items to those in need, especially diapers and period products. Wings Over Wausau returns this summer, 5K added to support Never Forgotten Honor Flight
Wings Over Wausau returns to the Downtown Wausau Airport on June 27-28. At the two-day celebration, you can find aircraft displays, military exhibits, remote-controlled aircraft showcases, a kids area with bounce houses and a petting zoo, and pilot meet and greets. Both evenings will also feature a fireworks display. Long-time fans of the event will find something new this year. The “Clear for Takeoff 5K” run/walk will start at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28. The 5K will benefit the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to send veterans to Washington, D.C. to see memorials. (CoVantage Credit Union, 5/27)

Last day to vote for Royal Rump Rumble diaper castles
Wednesday is the last day to vote for the best diaper castle. They were built from the diapers collected during the Royal Rump Rumble diaper drive earlier this month. Fox Communities Credit Union branches and the Action 2 News morning team built castles from the diaper boxes at each location. You can vote for your favorite by liking one of the photos on the Fox Communities Credit Union Facebook page. The winner of bragging rights will be announced Thursday. Awarding Scholarships

More than $2.7M in scholarships awarded to Ripon seniors
Members of the Ripon High School Class of 2025 met in the auditorium last week Wednesday for the annual senior recognition night and took home $2,772,450 in scholarships. (“Golden Rule” Community Credit Union, 5/24)

Supporting Financial Literacy

Landmark Credit Union, Arrowhead students partner to curb ATM skimming
Landmark Credit Union partnered with Arrowhead Union High School’s Warhawk Engineering and Manufacturing Department to develop a solution to ATM PIN privacy.
This is in response to the growing national threat of ATM skimming, which costs consumers more than $1 billion per year according to the FBI. Landmark was so happy with the result, the company bought 75 units from the class. (Landmark Credit Union, 5/20)
