Whether it's giving back, awarding scholarships, creating community, providing innovative solutions, or fostering financial literacy (and so much more), here's how Wisconsin's credit unions supported their members and communities in June.
Giving Back
Toppling Hunger Cereal Drive ends Monday
The USDA says 1 in 5 children in the United States isn’t sure where their next meal is coming from. In 2023, 11 million children relied on free or reduced-price school breakfasts to power them up for the day. More than 26,000 children in Northeast Wisconsin live with food insecurity. Breakfast can be harder to come by during the summer, so join WBAY and Fox Communities Credit Union in making a difference, one box at a time! The Toppling Hunger cereal drive starts at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 16, and continues for two weeks until 5 p.m. Monday, June 30. (Fox Communities Credit Union, 6/3)
Credit unions’ May diaper drives create a gameplan to help meet babies’ needs
Nearly half of U.S. families with children in diapers still can't count on a clean change— and in May, several community-owned credit unions proved how much difference one month of organized giving can make. Over five busy weeks, Royal Credit Union, ELGA, Landmark, Fox Communities, and DuTrac branches turned their lobbies into collection depots, moving tens of thousands of diapers and wipes to more than 20 Midwest diaper banks and social service partners. Royal Credit Union’s Inaugural Diaper Drive makes a meaningful impact
Royal Credit Union (Royal) successfully hosted its first-ever Diaper Drive throughout May, supporting Feed My People Food Bank, St. Croix Valley Food Bank, and the Diaper Bank of Minnesota. Through the generosity of community members and team members, Royal collected more than 12,300 diapers, 170 packages of wipes, and raised over $3,900 to assist families in need. Kids and elderly benefit from cereal drive
The “Toppling Hunger Cereal Drive” collection starts Monday. We always hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and for little kids and their growing bodies it’s even more important. WBAY is once again teaming up with Fox Communities Credit Union and our radio partner, Woodward Community Media, to make a difference for local food pantries. We’re hoping to stock the shelves with cereal boxes! This drive will help 15 different nonprofits in our area.
